What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menotripsical; BAR and Beyond - Peninsular Glimpses

June 19th and 20th.

After the early morning under the oak tree, spent the rest of the morning in the kitchen with Laura making samosas. She was getting good at the roti dough! After noon, and then Joanne, Laura and I piled into the car to drive to meet Joanne's elder daughter, her husband and his mother. The house, built by Ruth and her late husband, is a stylish forest dwelling, with walls of glass. Perfect for bird and critter watching... (if not necessarily brilliant for photography...)
I SHOT THE CARDINAL!!!

This was a highlight for me to tick off my list. It was here I also got to mark off the Rose-breasted Grosbeak - and its female.

As well is discovering the black squirrel, which I'd not even heard of till now.

The chickadee also made an appearance. I was doing well on the twitching!

We ate a wonderful meal and shared some good conversation and then it was time to drive home again. Under the Solstice moon... I had been having some trouble with the Fudge (I mentioned before, I think) and the long lens focus was playing up. It may have been the change of climate. Anyway, it made for an interesting lunar shot.

On the morning of the 20th, Joanne wanted to go into the office and get some work done. I took the chance to take in some internal views of the Town Hall - which was built as the high school.

Feel free to click on the piccies for biggification!

The hall is now available for hire. There was a wedding there on the Saturday - hence the need to clear up that tree so quickly!

On the way home, we stopped by the River Light Gallery (no webpage, but you can book face with them), where Joanne's woven products are sold - amongst many other beautiful things.

I had to pack some hand-made soap, a window glass ornament and a long, beautiful scarf. Yes, I really had to... The spaces left by things I had brought to hand out as I went along needed to be filled up. Couldn't go home lighter than I came. That wouldn't do at all. Jus' sayin'. *ahem*

That evening, had to do the packing proper. Was leaving the next morning. We had one more thing to do as a group however. There was another house showing and Joanne, the girls and I, along with Toby in his fabulous traveller, had to vacate. We picked up malts and headed for the Octagon.

This was a mish-mash post today because needed to finish up this leg of the trip... Morning of the 21st and Janice (Joanne's sister) was the one who kindly drove me to the airport. Huge huggies for Joanne and Laura (Emily had gone to work already) and a promise of meeting again "e're lang". I had yet another heart-pang at having to leave so soon.

... a bit of light relief for you tomorrow and back on the road next Monday. Canada still to do folks!!! One last cicada moment, then farewell Cleveland...

  1. I will never forget the first time I saw a rose breasted grosbeak. It was a Saturday morning in early May. I was walking into the kitchen to put on coffee. I happened to glance out to the feeders. Lo and behold was the most brilliantly colored bird I had ever seen. I just knew it was an exotic that has some how escaped. No camera handy but B-cat saw it too so we had 2 sets of eyes to look for it in our birding book. Crazy us...we should have looked on the cover...there it was. Gorgeous!!

Yes, I have to say that was quite exciting learning all that - didn't quite manage to get a full piccie of that swallow-tail on the flag, but this was the best of the several attempts! I really liked the Ohio flag. I really liked Ohio. I REALLY liked Peninsula... So glad you are enjoying reliving all this with me! Yxx

  6. Hair Om,
My friend, I seem to have gotten behind on reading of your adventure. We did not know about the black squirrels till a 2005 visit to the northeaster US. You captured some real beauties! How wonderful for you to have such fine hosts to take you 'around'. Does it amuse you we Yanks think something built in the 1800's is old? By European standards that is hardly even broken in very good! blessing, YAM. janice xx
