What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

I was always a pretty strong swimmer. When I moved to OZ, part of the 'rite of passage' into "Strayanism" was to visit the beach regularly and to play in the surf. Happy to oblige, I bought a wet suit and boogie board and set about challenging the Pacific ocean. A tad foolhardy for a flea-sized Scots lass, but I became quite adept at the body-glide, with or without board. None of this standing up lark. Also learned how to roll when the waves were winning and 'dumping' was inevitable. No broken bits.

Surfing. Summer. Right? Apparently not... here's a find from vimeo which takes us to Iceland. There's a dog having fun; there's sheep and birds and wind and rain and ice and mountains... and surfing. Seriously good surfing. Welcome to winter.

  1. This old lady always loved the ocean but never learned to swim. My mother had a terrible fear of water and always discouraged us from anything more than wading:( She was forever warning us about the undertow. I did make sure my children learned to swim. I suppose it is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks:)

  4. If I had lived in Australia, or anywhere with waters significantly warmer than the North Sea, I would definitely have tried to learn to surf - not sure if I'd ever have mastered the standing up business, but I'd love to have given in a go. I regularly see surfers out on Aberdeen city beach through the winter if the surf is up, so I'm not so surprised they are also to be found in Iceland. That said, the video footage is stunning.
    Thanks! Gail.
