What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menolyrical Challenge

Hello again - am risking being a bit boring this month, with all the writing flurry which is on at this end... but I know that lots of you have stories to tell too, which is why I issued the FFF challenge to you all a couple weeks back. Here it is again... though I did amend point four (reference at top, not bottom, of post - it gives better context and also helps when you are writing the story). Have also expanded on point two, in the hope you will feel even more encouraged!

NOVEMBER FINAL FRIDAY FICTION BLOG HOP.

Yes, I invite you all to get scribbling and create a poem or short story to be posted on Friday 24th of November. It will be a bloghop. All you have to do...

  1. Take a favourite book and go to page 87; take a section from lines 8, 12 and 16.
  2. using those phrases as a prompt, build a story around them. It can be either prose or poetry. The phrases do not have to appear in your tale in the same order as they were extracted from the origin text; but they ought to remain 'intact' so that they can be recognised upon reading them. (see point 4)
  3. Try to keep it to not more than 500 words but at least 150.
  4. Note the source text, it's author, and the actual phrases taken at the top of the post.
  5. Schedule the post and prepare to link up to the bloghop - again I will be quite strict; only those who have properly entered a fiction post and who place a link-back to this blog will be kept on the hop.
  6. As an added incentive, YAM will select one which she feels has extra merit and a special badge will be awarded to place on your sidebar.
For all participants - and for those who are willing to promote this bloghop - please take this badge and place a link to this page so that participants can always pop back to read the 'what, where and when'. Happy writing efurrybuddy!!!

As a bonus here, let me put in a flash-fiction version from my found phrases, which were -
"having only each other, cannibals and fire, sounded like a horrible idea."

Have written a full short story and scheduled it already, but am writing this one 'on the hoof' for you right here right now - go on, have a go - I know you can do it!!!

Karee and Karoo
Having only each other
Wandered the limbs of the land
From the Top to the Kinabaloo

They traipsed and they trotted
In search of the myth
Of cannibals and fire and
With which they were besotted

Their peeps had told them it
Sounded like a horrible idea
To go in search of such as these
And that they had no wit

To survive the ravages
Of the Top or to reach the
Place of Kinabaloo where were
The bone-cruncher savages

But Karee and Karoo
Would not be told other
And off they set with naught but
A pouch with a fruit or two

They wandered and wondered
And came to the Top but
Found it to be empty and hollow
And from mainland asundered

So around they went
In the path of the sun
Till they reached Kinabaloo
And there they found fun

For the ‘edge-elves’
Welcomed them and boiled the pot
Ready to serve them –
……………………………………………..

The tale is now told
To all children of Komti
Of the wanderers defiant
Of yesteryears old

Who never returned
No, never came back
After searching the ‘myth’
Of which they were warned.
