The "Beast" edition... The British media was determined to make a meal of our recent cold snap. I lost track of when it was, exactly, that 'records began' as there appears to be an elasticity to it. Also, I remember many Februarys like this in my younger, pre-OZ years... Toughen up Britain!!!
Wednesday to the left and Thursday to the right.
It was the soft, dry, powdery stuff.
The snow plough and gritting truck left an orange road, still with lots of snow and which became white within minutes after it had gone.

Oh my, winter did come and smack you! Our snow from the weekend is nearly melted and this week should be in the high 40's in a couple days. BUTT today was cold for our run!

Gosh you must have had 6" at least. The powdery fluffy snow is quite pretty but oh does it stick to surfaces and especially tree limbs.

ReplyDeleteOh nose look a snow flake, panic, run away, cancel the trains, close the schools and generally overreact! But, at least the trains cancellations meant I had Mum at home with me for a fewextrs days

ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised by the whole thing really. Yes, there was a beast and there were certainly problems in some areas (like power cuts and freezing rain, both of which are definitely not good), but on the whole I think it was a lot of fuss over very little. Seeing the amount of snow you had, it doesn't really look that bad.
ReplyDeleteOf course in Norway about 99% of the drivers change their tires from summer to winter in order to have more grip (mine are spiked even, not necessary, but they came with the car) and therefore less trouble. I live in a region where we don't get that much snow, but when we do, I have yet to live through a school closure!
Oh, and no, I didn't find the polar bear :(
It is true that if you aren't prepared for it, do not have the equipment, it can be a crisis.
