Virtue

We are all born with some talent or other, attributes and qualities which given proper attention, will make of us better human beings, able to contribute to society and provide for a positive life for ourselves.

No matter the circumstances in which we are born, it is possible, if we make our minds up to it, to expand our horizons. It takes work, it takes opportunities and the ability to grab them. Time and again it has been proven by people all over the world that self-effort, determination and a desire for better can drive one to substantial changes and improved conditions in life. There are, of course, those who are not born with the appropriately strong guna for this uplift. It is then up to those of us who have, to reach out and lend a hand.

Neither should our gunas be taken for granted. It pays to keep checking in, to ensure our growth is continuous and adding value to who we are and the impact we have on life.

"Growth is a spiral process, doubling back on itself,
reassessing and regrouping."
(Julia Margaret Cameron)

  1. Ohhhhhh I do so 100% agree with this YaYa!!! Life is what you make it and pne cannot expect anyone to be responsible for making one happy....you have to do it yourself.

  2. Hi Yamini - we all have some passionate ability ... it may take a while to find it - yet we can all achieve and help others and thus help ourselves ... cheers Hilary

  3. Ahh, something I try to impart to my grandchildren all the time. Everyone has "something" and they need to work to find it and to develop it and then to enjoy it:)

  4. Yes, I like the observation that we vary in the strength of our natural 'guna'. For people lucky enough to be born with this attribute in abundance, lending a helping hand rather than telling people they just need to pull themselves together is surely the right response.
    Cheers, Gail.

  5. I really enjoyed this because it puts the responsiblity for our growth and/or success squarely on our own shoulders. Occasionally we might get a free handout, but mostly it's recognizing what we have and then making the most of it - and helping others along the way.

  7. I believe that God gave every single one of us at least one gift, some have several. Gifts to be used to help others and talents to share with others. My main gift is teaching, not teaching kids in school but speaker type teaching.. my best friend has the gift of helping others. and I think He gives us talents for different things. My brother is a math genius and can't spell, i can spell and can hardly add 2 and 2.

  8. It's my belief that the purpose of this life is to let everything fall away that is not one's true essence, so that core gift/gifts shine brilliantly in service to all.

  9. Agree that it's a spiral process and loops back on itself if it's successful. Great going!

  10. Sometimes it is hard to want to grow because we become comfortable where we are - I agree, it is always good to check our growth every now and then.

  11. I find it even more interesting, once one has done something, to then have to reinvent oneself. This is thoughtful. I had to stop teaching.
My son, for example, was an actor, now financial planner. It was hard to let the old life go, but let go we must. xx

  12. I fear I am having a tendency to rest on my laurels of late in many ways. But with 5 grands to encourage along in life, I seem to have little energy left over for much else. namaste, janice xx
