Menoctoberish - a month of festivals

We are on the fourth day of Navratri (chaturthi). The manifestation of Durga here is Kushmanda-maa.

The Cosmic Egg. The coming together of particles, supplying of a good environment, results in the creation of life and light. Here we have the Mother of the Universe. Mother had lived in the sun, releasing its energy to the cosmos. In her kamandalu  are the nectars, the essentials of life (representing the womb and a woman's child-bearing facility).

Durga-maa, as Shakti (Essential Power), is considered as a universal constant. The masculine equivalent, in this case, is Brahma. He, as the active part within The Consciousness which conceived the Universe, she is the power of the manifestation. Their coming together resulted in the climactic OM. The modern term for this is the Big Bang... (howzat for euphemism?!)

Shakti then joins with Vishnu, the maintenance part of the cosmos and from them arise all life as we perceive it. (Vedanta discusses the chemistry and physics... but for the masses, this is how things were explained!)

Devotees will wear royal blue on this day and offer pumpkin. She will bless with cheerfulness, life and easing of ills. Kushmanda is the epitome of unconditional, no-strings, capital 'ell' Love.
