Well, my dears, we have come to that time... This year for my Advent posts, something a little different. Not directly Christmas-related, but definitely about spirit and being moved by it.
Music is a language universal. It makes appealing even the reading of a shopping list! The Psalms - the songs of David - might seem as dry as a shopping list to some, but they are one man's plea to the Higher for assistance, for Love, for penance... ultimately, we must all make our peace with That known by so many names. Heart-searching, soul-searching, takes some courage and to have an 'other' to reflect upon (and against) brings solace. In Scotland's North West regions there is a tradition of psalm-singing, about which more in later posts. Here today are two Gaelic psalms sung as one tune and in a way that is quite familiar to most ears.

Is that a violin in he beginning? I'm drawn to string music more and more. Beautiful photos and music thank you.
ReplyDeleteLast night at the beginning of a local teams hockey game the most adorable 12 year old boy played our National Anthem on violin. That in itself was a treat but the boy took up violin at age 5 when he was being treated for leukemia. After treatment no contact sports so he took violin. What a gifted child....

We too sing many psalms as part of our Catholic Mass. They are beautifully written. We love the Irish music and voices, and oh that violin is amazing.
