Menoizikul - midweek musicalisms

This week I bring you one of my favourite stuthis (hymns) from  Indian tradition, here given a modern musical twist, which was a great chart hit when I was in Mumbai. Add in some wonderful interpretation in the Bharatnatyam (classical dance of India) style and it is most enjoyable. For me, at least. Do you agree?

  3. That even hurts looking at the positions the women take ~ Lee back has a herniated disc and she is in pain. Bertie has Pilates now these dancers.

  4. I enjoyed watching the beautiful girls dancing, but I confess I don't really tune in emotionally to that style of music.

  6. Hi Yam - they are beautiful, their dance is stunning ... so lithe, subtle, yet so relaxed ... wonderful to see - and as like your other commenters - how I wish!

I thought I'd just let you know re 'Shiraz: A Romance of India' - it's a 1928 film that was totally filmed in India and has recently been restored by the British Film Institute and which we were shown as part of our film society ... it was wonderful to see - cheers Hilary

Oh, lucky you! One can find this available on the tubular, but not, I think with Anoushka's new soundtrack. Yxx

  10. Indian classical dance forms represent grace and technique of high standard! The late SriDevi was an accomplished dancer. All her films had dance sequences which showed her exquisite dance steps.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video of Bharatnatyam. The lissome girls must have started taking lessons from an early age. Perfect performance in grace and rhythm!
