MenoSundays; Life Lived Lovingly

Rather appropriately, the letter "R" appears today in this little journey through the alphabet.

R is for Risen.
Yes, it is Easter Day and many millions of people around the world are focused upon the rolled stone which signalled something unusual had happened at the tomb of their Guru. The body was nowhere to be found.

R is for Resurrected.
Not just body is gone, (apparently up and walked out - or carried...), but at a point of variable measure later, there are claims of sightings and touchings. Restoration of physical presence.

R is for Reason.
Questioning minds have pondered upon the phenomenon and posited theories as to the practicalities of such an incidence. (Even the crucifixion, scientifically, is hard to prove, though rare evidence is available.) A large body of Christianity does not dare, need or want to doubt any aspect of the story of Christ as presented on the pages of the Bible. Then there are, as human balance demands, those who doubt at all the existence of even a societal rebel who may have been a charismatic teacher. Generally, though, history and science are in agreement that somebody lived a life which led to a movement far beyond, perhaps, his own imagining. With all legends it is said, there can be no smoke without fire.
“I don’t know any mainstream scholar who doubts the historicity of Jesus,” said Eric Meyers, an archaeologist and emeritus professor in Judaic studies at Duke University. “The details have been debated for centuries, but no one who is serious doubts that he’s a historical figure.” (National Geographic article.)
R is for Review.
Regardless of one's stance upon the man who became known as the Christ, the basic tenets of his teaching actually speak to each and every human being.
1)  Be merciful and
2)  Be forgiving
3)  Seek goodness
4)  Respect others
5)  Be kind

...above all be Loving.

  1. Hi Yam,
I certainly accept that Jesus Christ was a real historical figure, and the basic tenets of his teaching seem pretty good rules to live by. But every Easter Sunday these days I smile fondly at the memory of my mother, a dutiful and unquestioning member of the Anglican Church until well into old age, returning from the Easter Holy Communion service when she was nearing eighty and saying "you know Gail, this Resurrection business, it doesn't make any sense does it?" I'm afraid she had become infected with her husband and daughter's tendency to doubt, and in fact, at the end, she became surprisingly negative towards to organised religion (Anglican or any other kind).
    Anyway, Happy Easter!
    Gail.

  2. YaYa you have surely raised many points that are not at all foreign to my eyes or ears.
Accepting is the key word here.
    Happy Easter DownUnder

  3. Jeez I was already to say something then I read Bertie's comment and I am stuck. Maybe R is for roots because you got to have your roots in a belief of something or your just out there like a fish out of water.

  5. I am with Gail, Jesus is a historical figure. While I am not be a believer, I do believe there is good in many of the messages. If we could all just follow the golden rule, the world would be a much better place.

  6. Looks like I am the only one that believes Jesus is Lord and was Resurrected and will come again. R is for Rising from the Dead again.

  7. Lovely post, YAM. My personal faith is based on a Judaeo Christian background. I have felt the presence of angels, protectors, the Holy Spirit or whatever name one needs to give to it. I call it the Creator. My faith is based on this what I call a personal experience. I do not worry about virgin births, resurrections, etc. I, also, realize that many develop their relationship with Jesus and God based on the beliefs of the birth and resurrection. Neither is right or wrong, just each person's journey in the relationship. Continued blessings on your journey. namaste, janice, xx
