What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.
Wasps. They have their place. Just not in the drawers in our garden annexe. Edinburgh Pest Control ("PEST5 R U5") were prompt and efficient. But not before I got some interesting piccies...
My word YAM what an elaborate wasp nest. The first photo w/o the pest looks like a sand sculpture. They are angry pest and scary looking. Yay for the brave "PEST5 R U5". Surely not I job I want.... Hugs cecilia and thanks for braving the area for photos. Something I've never seen this close
Before we opened the post we were preparing to ask if you got a good look at the nest - and YES YOU DID. Aren't they a miracle of nature? You are right they do have their uses and I'll defend them to the end, BUT even we don't want them living in places we constructed for ourselves. They can jolly well build their own homes - somewhere out in nature. Furrings and purrings from MR T (who is sound asleep in front of the fan right now, pretending to 'snoopervise' the typing march across the screen).
Hari OM I do think, Mr T, that all critters are a miracle of nature - indeed, Ma Nature herself is a miracle!!! However, I also believe there is a place for everything and everything its place. Wasps and hyoomon homes are not a mix to be encouraged!!!
Well done on that feline snoopervising, BTW... Yxx
we call these scary things yellow jackets and they are powerful stingers and scare me silly. so glad no none was harmed in the making of these photos. i agree with Cecila, awesome construction in that first shot... i can thing of nothing they are good for and am terrifed of them. i dislike all wasps. we have several different types here and i don't like any of them..
Hi Yam - wasps nests as our similar nests ... so fascinating to see - but I agree not too near us. Glad you've had it dealt with ... take care - Hilary

ReplyDeleteThat is some very impressive nest-building. We had a wasp nest here one year and Mom says those buggers are really nasty.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
That would be scary to find in a drawer!
ReplyDeleteI must say, however, that the nests are intricate and beautiful. Great photos!
The nest is the most lovely I have seen, and I wouldn't mind knowing more of its construction.
ReplyDeleteit looks like a marble cake ... but better to watch from a distance ;O)

ReplyDeleteOMG that is some impressive architecture! :) Looks a bit like geodes gone terribly wrong...
ReplyDeleteThey can stay away from me, MOL!
ReplyDeleteThe nests are beautiful and works of art but we are not fond of stinging wasps.
ReplyDeleteQuite a big one ... Dangerous.
ReplyDeleteCool pictures of the nest but we hope you were using a zoom lens and didn't get too close.
ReplyDeletethey do make amazing nests ~ gorgeous macro shots ~ ^_^
