To say that my last day 'on duty' for father was challenging conveys very little, really. I'll just say it involved a floor, calling in outside help, a fair amount of push and shove and then him sleeping the day through whilst I picked up the pieces and got stuff in order for the arrival of Mac2, who was up from London to provide another two weeks of respite...
Mac1 and I were offski by about 0915h on Thursday morning. She could only stay through until yesterday with me, but I remain here until at least the 27th, perhaps the 30th.
Ostensibly, our run from East to West was a straightforward motorway couple of hours... however, as is our tendency, a little break en route arose. As we passed by the Port Glasgow retail square, we spotted Costa had a drive-through setup. We swung in the top end and then Mac1 remembered she needed some toiletry items, so quickly dropped into the pharmacy - then into Aldi's for a brioche treat to have with our drinks and ready-salads for lunch on the ferry. Then to Costa and her hot chocolate and my peach tea. We drove five minutes further along the Clyde into Greenock and stopped at the quayside for our "elevenses".
By this time, the hazy day had started to clear and the temperature was very fine indeed. We had the company of many young gulls and their parents and the vision of past industry and ships and ... well, we had a walk around the place.
You will not be surprised to read that I took a significant number of photographs and that you can expect to see those turning up in 'views' posts very soon!
Before we knew it, the clock had shifted to 1300h and we got moving again for the fifteen minutes drive to McInroy's point for the car ferry. We did not have long to wait before being boarded and then we had our little falafel salads as the twenty-minute trip shifted us from South to North and onto the Cowal Peninsula. Home!!!
As we drove off the ferry, the sun proper broke through and Dunoon was ablaze in 'summer'. Unloading at the Hutch was quick and settling equally so. My wee flat embraced us warmly. "Where have you been all this time, come on in..."
Kettle, more brioche, 'download discussion' as the primary carers... a little online time and snooker on the telly. Some forty winks. Evening meal, simple and light then at eight in the evening, we walked down to the shore to enjoy the gloaming.
Back to the Hutch for an evening cuppa and sharing art and literary things, I processed the photos (84 just this day!); bed. Day one over and we already felt we had a holiday. Thank you Weather God.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh YAM I am full of glee and 87 kinds of happy to read this. I bet just looking at the water and the pretty boat took about 10 lbs off your shoulders after the trying last day in E'burgh. The ferry ride another 5 lbs removed from your shoulders. Mac1 thank you for posing so YAM could take lots of photos..we all enjoy them so much.
ReplyDeleteHere's to 2 weeks of R&R.
Hugs HiC
Looks like you had a fun trip home. Enjoy your respite.
ReplyDeleteThat little side excursion looks like it was quite entertaining, especially after your eventful last day with Dad. We hope the rest of your time at home is very enjoyable and peaceful for you.
ReplyDeleteWe had to look up triskelion to know what it was. Yep, very fitting for our little triangle of love and energy:)

ReplyDeleteHi Yam - it sounds like a real relief to have some free time ... when you can make your own decisions - and certainly your trip home sounds just so much fun ... except for the seagulls - but that's for a story by me anon. Have a lovely peaceful week - take care - Hilary
ReplyDeleteGlad you are home. Hope all well at Edinburgh too. The photos are, as usual, lovely. The seagull ones are just super. <3
ReplyDeleteOnly 84??!!
ReplyDeleteIt wounds like a lovely adventure! We haven't gone anywhere in awhile.
I hope you get your R & R and all unfolds as it should. xx
Once again I ask how the comment made by Cecilia! I am so happy to see all these photos and I can feel the joy and happiness the two of you had just on a fun trip back to the hutch. What you described here it's just average normal daily life and that's what we all love or at least that's what I love. I'm always happy to see my home when I leave it and come back. I'm glad you have a few more days and I hope you enjoy them as much as you did this one looking forward to seeing the photos
ReplyDeleteWe love your beach (and Mac1's jumper) and all the wonderful views of your coastline. Your digital darkroom must have been a busy place that evening. Enjoy your break (and Tigger wants to know if YAMsters have those wheel things to run round the inside of - he reckons if humans had those we could power the TV.)

DeleteMOL - what an idea, Mr T... but actually, I have 'static pedals' such as we elders use to cycle whilst sitting in our chairs... would that count??? Yxx
