Today begins an alphabetical series of posts which were first produced by Martha Simpson in response to the COVID crisis. She has made the series available in a downloadable PDF which you are free to get if you wish to keep it in your own files. This is a Kindness on her part for which I offer much Gratitude.
As regular readers here are aware, my life this year has had the added challenge of taking on cares for my father (with willing assistance from my sisters). To say that it has been draining my personal reserves is putting it generously. Finding Martha's alphabet has reminded that I was once a counsellor, offering exactly this sort of guidance - and now it is a case of 'healer heal thyself'!!! So this month, as much for my own personal gain as for spreading the Love, I bring you that alphabet for twenty-six of the thirty days. On Fridays, there will be a 'break'. This is being scheduled, and is, in fact, a part of the self-care advised, insofar as it means I do not have to think too much about posting on the blog during this month, in which there are going to be a few other things going on and lots of deep breaths will be required! (This goes a little against the "J" part of journalling - for which I use this very blog - but I'll be around and responding to any questions/comments.)
I am leaving the format exactly as Martha produced the 'slides' Today we begin with Martha's own intro and then the letter "A".
YAM thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
ReplyDeleteHonestly B and I have said out loud many times over this last year (since I know from personal experience) how in the world is YAM managing? I answered my own question, One day at a time and faith...then the world is in a pandemic. Bless your heart. The quote is so true...there is more than one way to do most things. This became quite evident as you and your sisters each cared for your Dad in their own way. This year has played havoc with how I like/want my days to go.
It took a while but I think I can say I have become about 95% adaptable and have learned to take each day as it comes..not plan too much. I was a planner 2020 has not be a year in which one can make plans.

ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. Adaptability is something that for me has been learned - it doesn't come naturally.

Adapting is not always easy but it truly is a MUST. Hugs to you and your family♥
ReplyDeleteYes, one day at a time. It's tough, I know. You do what you have to do for yourself!
ReplyDeleteA great idea because it will help all of us I am like Cecilia I think I'm about 95% adapted to the new normal but I still hate it so I still need help. And while you're dealing with life! I'm over here a half a continent away dealing with life! Thank you for always being there and for all the wonderful comments and love that you send across the pond.
ReplyDeleteWe all have certainly had to adapt to a lot of new things this year. We keep our paws crossed for your family as you care for your dad.
ReplyDeleteAdaptation and resignation are not necessarily the same thing but might achieve the same outward result. Some of us are resigned to the 'new norm' and some have adapted, the later of which I suspect means getting more out of life despite the strange shape it has taken on this year. We look forward to reading this alphabet as it progresses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yam - I'm going to enjoy these ... Adaptability ... so essential today. Take care and look after yourself and all things happening around you - stay safe ... Hilary
ReplyDeleteI say if 2020 has taught us nothing it is flexibility and adaptability!
