It has been a turbulent week in the Mac household. Hopefully, the major teething trubs have been dealt with, but change is change and it is likely to bring further change along with it. That's just life, isn't it?
During this week, in "Blogville", our dear friend the MadSnapper, Sandra and her husband Bob had to say goodbye to their gorgeous black Big Boy. Her eulogy to him was perfect. Those of us who watched "Gary" arrive and receive his new name and settle into the Love and Care of his new pawrents grew to love him almost as much as they did and are heartbroken with them.
I was struck, though, by the words of the Josh Grogan song that she referenced in the eulogy, for in many ways it applies to where we are here at the Macs. Father is a labour of Love for us now and this week, due to the changes, he also had a breakthrough moment of recognition - and appreciation - of what has been done for him thus far and what is realistic as we move forward. Things are going to continue to be quite difficult, but that moment of catharsis does take a small load from the mind.
And then there are the oh so infrequent moments of total surprise...
It was brief, that thought of walking through for breakfast... removing the left slipper didn't help... but it was a moment worth recording for posterity! (For those who do not know, dad has Parkinson's and is pretty much immobile.)
I am so very, very grateful to you all for your ether support - it is amazing how uplifting it is to know there are others, no matter how distant, who do understand. May the Lord Bless You and Keep you All.
The breakthrough moment of recognition will, I hope, continue to ease your heavy load a little.
ReplyDeleteHey YAM...oh those little moments are so very very special. Your Dad's smile speaks volumes....I can read in your words that you two were smiling.
ReplyDeleteOh yes dear sweet BB will be truly missed. Mad Snapper and B gave him a lifetime of love in his 2 years with them.
Sending you and Dad lots of Capital 'ells' and wishes for a blessed evening.
Hugs HiC
How light and cheery the room. How lovely the smile.
ReplyDeleteWe did not know Big Boy but we were sad to learn of his passing. We had visited him when we first learned he was so ill. How we wish we knew him earlier:(
ReplyDeleteCherish the breakthrough moments and let yourself be flooded by all the happy time from earlier days.
Hi Yam - those moments of brightness bringing happiness through a smile, some laughter ... the memories - all so worth while and necessary as we go through life with frailness ... your Dad does look happy there and delighted you're with him ... wonderful - reminds me of my Ma ... with thoughts for you as the days go by ... take care - Hilary
ReplyDeleteAll of the people who follow you and follow me and that we lead our daily lives from afar with have poured out so much love to me and so much love to you and it does help heal the heart no matter what are trials might be to know that there are others who love us and care for us and care when we suffer and care when we're happy and that we can relate to each other and the things that hurt. Josh's song is also perfect for what you are going through and for many others. I really like this photo of your dad. He has a moment of Happiness there as he laughed. A moment worthy of capturing forever.
ReplyDeleteHold the good moments tight, they will help. ❤️
ReplyDeleteA massive bear hug from all of us here.
