My second choice for the mini shanty season is the tale of whalers who've sailed the arctic circle and are now heading for heat and 'respite' in the Hawaiian archipelago. The singer, Stan Rogers, was Candian and has a wonderful baritone sound... but sadly died at age 33 in an aircraft fire in 1983.
we LOVE his voice... so sad that he had to go so early....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great voice and it's sad that he died so young.
ReplyDeleteNow leaving the frozen tundra bound for Maui is a dream for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a rich voice...yet another talent lost too soon and tragically.
Thank you.

I love his voice and also love the Harmony when they all sing together it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStan was a pretty great guy. In the late 70s He did the "circuit" around Canada and the the bar I worked in was one of the stops and he did the folk festivals. He had a heck of a time getting his music recorded on mainstream labels. He did sell records at his performances, but I don't recall being able to get them in stores. I don't think his main albums were released until after his plane crash. I have 2 of his records in my old vinyl collection downstairs. Thanks for having him hear today! It's been a long time since I played his music! You are Awesome!

DeleteI did wonder if one of my Canadian pals would be familiar - but to have met the guy is a bit extra special! Thanks for sharing that memory. Yxx
We do enjoy this style of music. How sad that the life of such a great singer was cut short so early.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how we missed this, but enjoyed with a view over pink sunrise sea today. F&MrT
