This month here at the Wild YAMster's bloggy, you are going to be regaled with words related to feelings and happenings of the last twelve months. Oh yes, you know of what I talk. This is to be the ALPHABET OF AAARRGFIZZZ... We've all had to deal with it. This will be a reflection purely from my point of view. You don't necessarily have to agree with what I say, just appreciate where it's coming from. Normal service will resume on May Day. (By which time I may be yelling that down the ether phone loud and repetitively!)

A word I first formed on the third day of April last year was "COVIDitionitis". This is the Condition of Coping with all the Collateral effects of a pandemic. Though I suppose to be entirely accurate, it is about the not-coping and the need to find a remedy. Remedies such as the little vid I shared on that day.
Coviditionits manifests in many ways and both individually as well as 'in the herd.' As described in A, there could be angst, agitation, anger. As in B, there could be bawling, baking overload and boorishness. What to add, here in C?
Chocolate. I was never one for a lot of the stuff. Very little in fact. I could count the number of times I might buy any chocolate for myself in a year on the thumbs of both hands. That all Changed last year.
To be fair, C-19 may not have been entirely responsible. Even without the national lockdown, I would very likely have been pretty much stuck indoors with dad simply because he could not really be left alone. There might have been an hour in each day I could have walked around the block or something, but really, the year was already going to be a Challenge. However, the arrival of the lurgy ensured the situation was such that one had to seek a variety of outlets of respite in a very tight space. The bathroom bawls were one way. Baking was another. Chocolate was always popular with the father, so why not join in?
Then there was Crochet. I've always crocheted, but never quite to the extent I took up during this past year! It was something I could do to distract myself whilst still keeping an eye on the old man. Yes, crochet and associated crafting were definitely coping strategies.
Outside the walls of #15, as the national incarceration progressed, folk were getting Called-out for transgressions of the rules. Notably one pawn on the chequerboard known as Dominator C'mooooon... the puppeteer. The architect of mayhem and whisperer in the ear of the one who was supposed to be thinking for himself, but was too busy being engaged and adding to the population.
Cummings knows no shame, claiming to be the architect of everything. And there was me thinking that was the Power Of The Cosmos...

ReplyDeleteWhat a year. Yes, a Challenge. And I love Chocolate no matter what year it is!
ReplyDeleteCrafting was definitely IT in this household - I've supervised knitting, crochet, net-making, lino-cutting and printing, origami, endless sewing, decoupage, and creative writing (along with blogging which has experienced a never-prevoiusly-achieved level of devotion by my secretary). Xxx Mr T

Your crocheted projects are just beautiful. I'm not a huge chocolate fan. It gives me migraines if I eat too much of it.

ReplyDeleteCooking. When the first lockdown came, my mum told us: I am not doing all the cooking, you two can share the load. It has led me to many fancy and not so fancy recipes, some are keepers, others not so much.
ReplyDeleteKlem
Cantankerous craziness certainly cluttered the coziness of lockdown!
