What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menoizikkul; Midweek Musicalisms

Having introduced you to malambo, I now bring you a solo performance that is all spit and fire. This fella is fierce with flaring nostrils and eyes. Nothing matches the footwork though. Wonder how many boots he gets through a year... as questions were asked let me just add that it is men only for this gaucho dance, (though occasionally nowadays in amateur troupes, ladies are found)... and its origins from the 1600s are based on native battle dance; I imagine in the same vein as Capoeira (Brazil). The musical part came with the arrival of the Spanish, as did the boots and the more formalised form of the dance. Originally the dance was in feet bandaged only around the heels and ankles - open toes. The Gauchos rode their horses this way prior to boots. In this week's video, you will get a close up of the boots and come to see how very very sturdy and well made they are!

  5. He'd give River Dance a good run for their money - they are good but I'd rather watch a performance of this any day; this is such a whole of the soul thing. Mr T has a bit of viewing catch-up to do - he has abandoned me for an outdoor perch the last couple of days. I'll let you know what he thinks of it too in due course. xxx F

  6. He certainly has a lot of energy but the boots just don't look that comfy to me for dancing.

  8. WoW!Incredible foot and leg work! It is spectacular! And he looks so fierce! I must admit, in the middle, I had visions of Clint Eastwood and the gunslinger du jour doing a dance off!
