As most of you are aware, I sponsor puppies being trained for work as Guide Dogs for the Blind. Currently, my "pupil" is Sprout. Here is the latest pupdate on his progress! I am ever in awe of the Love of the capital kind it takes to have a puppy, train it ... and then face releasing it to another and start all over again. That takes a special heart, methinks. You may detect in the eloquence here that Sprout is possibly a little bit mischievous!
Such a sweet boy. Really, must be so hard to let go at the end of the training.
ReplyDeleteWhile I've no time for dogs of any stripe, F says these guys do a very important job for people whose eyes don't work well. We never see guiding dogs here but one used to pass our house in England with a human under pilotage. I noticed he had a handle like the steering bar on my Donkey. Sprout looks like a clever k9. What a great pupdate on Sprout. We enjoyed watching the video and seeing him with Chrisi.
ReplyDeleteMy good friend is a trainer for assistance dogs - a type of training designed to teach dogs to help with everyday chores such as collecting mail or bringing shoes - and picking up dropped items. They can also be trained to bark and seek help if their owner falls for example.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing the qualities that dogs have and how they can be used - I was astonished over the reports that dogs can smell COVID infection and other diseases.
Meanwhile my Oscar spend his time sleeping and running with little in between - such a faithful companion in recent difficult weeks though.

DeleteAll pets are definitely on the healing scale- but I do think dogs have that little something extra special, even if it is simply distraction and succour in times of stress... Yxx
Sprout looks and sounds adorable. Paws crossed he makes it through guide dog training, but in any event he'll clearly be a great companion for someone.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail (late to the computer this weekend - but the vacuum cleaner has been working overtime in the Torridon cottage!)
What a terrific Dog Sprout is and I know he will make a spectacular guide dog. I love that his keeper/trainer send you detailed updates too. What a lovely dog.
ReplyDeleteWell done, sponsoring him! What a difference they make for humans.
