Yes and no - in contrast consider the prayer of recovering addicts - "give me the strength to change the things I can, the serenity to accept the things I can't change, and the wisdom to know the difference....." and that saying about discretion being the better part of valour.... then maybe the 'toughs' only win out by being tough if they applied it in the right places.
