MenoSundays; Life Lived Lovingly

Last week was the celebration of Dassera, aka Dusshera, aka Vijaydashana, which is the tenth day of the festival of Navratri (the nine nights of the Goddess). It is a day of victory of good over evil in wider terms, but for the contemplative, it is hailed to represent victory over one's own lower tendencies and living life to the highest values. To Live Life Lovingly.

  1. What a good idea to have a day devoted to victory over the lower tendencies, both general and personal!

Well, anyone living as a decent human being ought to be able to claim every day as such a victory... just as mothers and fathers ought to be honoured and respected every day and not just on assigned holidays... yet we are also a species that needs constant reminding - and celebrations! Yxx

    2. Couldn't agree more. My parents never let us celebrate mothers/fathers days but maintained the parents should be respected and treated with appreciation every day. xxx F

  3. Could almost have been written by Aristotle - as a student I did not take his virtue theory, and yet now it is perhaps the dominant philosophy of my life.

  6. What a great philosophy to live by. If we could all strive to be like that the world would be free of war and conflict of any kind.

  7. sounds good reading it, but not easy to do, we all strive to do it if we are decent loving people, but still hard to do... my mother was close to perfect in all of these, but the rest of my family was sadly lacking

  8. Love the quote, and the festival! I was in Oliver this week to get my winter tires on and visited my Indian friend at their fruit stand. She was telling me about their celebrations this week. Thanks so much for sharing.

  9. In my head I keep saying, in a world where you can be anything be kind. It can be hard to do, but I know it is worth striving for.
