What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menorise; Saturday Sayings

Mimi Lenox has asked bloggers to 'bomb' the internet with posts for peace this weekend. I am more than happy to oblige and it is not at all difficult to include such a post here, where I normally place inspirational and thought-provoking quotes. I could think of nothing better than to look to Mohandas K Gandhi for this one...

“Peace will not come out of a clash of arms but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face of odds.”

Of course, Ukraine is not unarmed and, if we are honest, for all that he has been an admirable leader to his beset nation, Volodymir Zelenskiy has tended to fall to dramatic and warmongering words himself in his appeals for assistance from other nations. He has used emotive language to guilt governments for their lack of war-like action. As well, I have seen many comments (from 'armchair' warriors) seeming to want governments or Nato to 'get stuck in'. It is also disturbing that there are so many men (and a few women) from other countries willing to go place themselves in the war scenario... call me a cynic, but could this be the "World of Warcraft" syndrome outing itself???

While I do think some measures have been weak and belated as these nations fight the 'war of economy', I certainly think there is wisdom in holding back from moves such as no-fly zones. I definitely believe that the British government could be doing a great deal more regarding providing refuge and relief for all those who are fleeing the area of conflict. The efforts from Westminster have been abysmal and no more than posturing and blustering. Prevaricating and even barricading.

(Writing this a week ago, who knows what the situation will be as you read it - things may have changed, but I suspect our particular leopards are not changing their spots...)

Best of all would be that within Russia itself the unarmed protests and voices of his own people will finally help to stop Putin in his tracks... a gal can dream, right?

  1. Gail worries about how men on both sides in Ukraine will act in places where the majority of women, children and the vulnerable have fled. Nobby is asking if his inherited wardrobe includes a blue and yellow bandana.

  4. Peace is only a dream, the only way to have peace is for it to lacking 2 or more humans. We can pray and we can wish and dream and we can and do and will support those being attacked. as for not fighting back, i don't agree, look what hapened to the jews in the holocaust. life is a fight, from the time we come out screaming until we go out of this world..

  5. Your perspective is thoughtful, precise, often overlooked (or sadly unspoken amidst louder voices) ... this is not a teens video game going on. It is real, with real consequences already felt. Wiser minds need to prevail. Keep dreaming, even
    bigger dreams ...

  6. I like your hope that dissent within Putin's own country will influence a change. That would be awesome.

  7. Dreaming, hoping, and prayers is what we do. We the people have so little influence on the warmongers. I agree on the change for Russia needs to come from within. Hoping, and dreaming and praying. namaste, janice xx

  8. I do hope and pray that something is being done as we speak to bring this conflict to an end. I can't fathom what the people in Ukraine are experiencing....how they are surviving this. Can you imagine being a child and having to leave your home and all your belongings while bombs are falling? Everything I see on the news is horrific.

BlogBLAST isn't really a bomb, so to speak. It's a synonym for speaking up loudly for speak in many places. And that we do. Thank you for an insightful and thought-provoking post.
    Peace to you and yours,
    Mimi
