For April, I'm participating in #BlogchatterA2Z, and you will find original images created by me and some ramblings to go with them. I will capitalise words that begin with the featured letter (on first use only). Let me know what you think of the pics, words, or both in the comments! For more of this madness, you can visit Blogchatter.
The four great epochs in Hinduism are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and KALI YUGA. Satya Yuga or the Age of Truth, is said to last for 4,000 divine years, Treta Yuga for 3,000, Dwapara Yuga for 2,000 and Kali Yuga will last for 1,000 divine years—a divine year equalling 432,000 earthly years. Hindu tradition holds that three of these great ages of this current universe have already passed away, and we are now living in the fourth one—the Kali Yuga.
It is the age of disruption, contention, darkness. Floods and famine, war and crime, deceit, and duplicity characterize this age. Kali Yuga has two phases: In the first phase, humans—having lost the knowledge of the two higher selves—possessed knowledge of the "breath body" apart from the physical self. Now during the second phase, however, even this knowledge has deserted humanity, leaving us only with the awareness of the gross physical body. This explains why humankind is now more preoccupied with the physical self than any other aspect of existence. At the end of Kali Yuga, there will be the destruction of the cosmos and it will all start over again. It is not all doom and gloom though. For those who are prepared to seek out the path of light, there will be rewards, their spirits being relieved of much of the suffering that others must bear.
We know that civilisations rise and fall... should our current one be any different?
This is intriguing and mesmerizing.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from India
That our current civilization will fall is inevitable, whatever your perspective on the process. The only question is when. The planet and the universe will continue on its merry way!
ReplyDeleteThe image is quite intriguing with its light and shadows and ups and downs. What medium do you use to make these images?

DeleteAll but one of the images this series are either fully created originals, or manipulated photos (of my own), using the ibisPaintX app. Yxx
I agree with your last sentence... it is true... and we should have this question in our minds...
ReplyDeleteWe are in that self-destructive era.
ReplyDeleteStrangely as we scrolled down we had an impression of our office ceiling - it looks nothing like that but it made me think of it. Taken as a whole it does a good job of conveying disruption, contention and darkness. Fz & Pz Mr T and F
ReplyDeleteDramatic picture indeed depicting the Kaliyuga...
ReplyDeletethis creation today is my favorite so far. I can visualize this on a large canvas, it would be hung as a work of art.. I dont't see anything in it I just like the way it looks... and the colors.
ReplyDeleteI'll do K=kraziness going on every where with people, mother nature

I really love the chaos and geometry in today's art. I'm with Gail
ReplyDelete(Nobby), the end is inevitable and it's just a matter of time.
Your art fits the title perfectly Yamini.
ReplyDeleteAnd your post is at once humbling and hopeful.
Thank you.
I have heard about this. But I haven't quite understood it. Do we know the duration (start and end) of these four yugas.
ReplyDeleteEvolution happens. No need to wait for hundreds of year. It happens in a few decades. Many things that were okay, become not okay, and vice versa. Many things that didn't exist surface; and many things that were there vanish.

DeleteYes, it is considered that Kali Yuga, in which we find ourselves, is actually working now towards its conclusion - which ties in somewhat (and may even have prompted) other cultural references to "doomsday", "day of reckoning", "dreamtime" and such like. In other words, the entire human race as we know and interpret ourselves just now, manifested within Kali; we have ever been narcissistic and despotic in nature! Think of the biblical reference to Eden and how we never quite deserve it... All these tales are, of course, provided so that all levels of understanding can grasp the enormity of the truth - we are our own worse enemy... Yxx
What an interesting image today. I agree with Cecilia - it's a krazy world we live in.
ReplyDeleteKali Yug... I like it for one reason. My grandfather told me that in earlier Yugas to get the divine blessings one had to undertake strenuous "Tapascharya" for years, decades and centuries together. But in Kali Yug one needs to only chant the name of the Lord and that too saying it only once with all Bhakti, devotion is enough. What else can one ask for to achieve that Devine blessing?
ReplyDeleteThe black shades and patterns in today's painting are adding so much of layered meaning. One that of discord is what came straight to my heart.

WOW! Kali Yug goes on for a long time yet. The demon Kali is quite the evil being...I wonder if a certain Russian is his manifestation...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. We have missed you. It has been a heck of a long time since we posted. We will not be posting as often as we were, life is too busy these days.
