As we slip off the end of summer and head down into the autumnal months, here is a bittersweet song about the style and strengths of a Shanghai Woman. It was recorded in 1947 and the singer, Zhang Yi Wen, was quite the thing in her time. There is a lovely write-up about her HERE with photos and links to other songs available online. Thanks for listening.

I had a friend, now deceased, that was a singer in the 30's and 40's, she sang for the Soldiers during the war, and was also a nurse. her voice was much like this ladies voice.
