Last Thursday, I bussed through to Edinburgh to spend a couple of nights bunked up with Mac2 in a motorway/inn of the standard chain variety. We were there to attend the funeral of Neighbour M on Friday. There was a chill wind, but the sun shone, and the daffodils, tulips and primroses around the crematorium were lifting spirits. What a turnout; standing room only for those with stronger legs at the back. A wonderful, properly Scottish Kirk sendoff. Then we walked across the road to another chain hostelry for refreshments and chatter. (I'll be frank, I could only take one of the sandwich fillings and was grateful that at least the chocolate parkin was decent. So many sausage rolls and sandwiches were left, we Macs and one other helper loaded up doggy packs and Mac1 delivered them to the Salvation Army Hostel in the city for their evening table - M would have loved that so much was she into charitable giving!) It was lovely to connect with some familiar faces, such as ex-neighbours and M's family, as well as finally meeting some of the faces that, till then, had only been names.
Three Sisters Enjoy Spring |
We sisters spontaneously arranged a meal out as we had not been together since our father's funeral, already more than two years ago. A potluck find quite close to our motel/hotel, on the city's outskirts and which was easily reached by Mac1, proved to be very worthwhile. Luci's is right by the River Esk in Lasswade, and as we opted to sit in the bar area rather than the significantly noisier restaurant section, we had a full view of the water and the trees and birds. As we walked from the car park, we spotted a female Mallard duck being pursued amorously by four drakes. (Yellow arrows, the boys; orange arrow the girl 🥴)
We should have hung around to see if she made a choice! Food and drinks were calling us. Bad blogger that I am, there was a total failure to photograph our wonderful meal. Colourful, fresh, and delicious. We would definitely visit there again.
Saturday morning, Mac2 and I had to pack up and prepare for our journies each to our homes - but only after going to Mac1's for porridge and fruit and cups of tea and hugs. Busses and ferry back west and into the Hutch again by five in the evening for me.
Then I had to shift headspace again as I geared up for this week. This post is scheduled. There is no telling how the week is panning out. You'll find out soon enough, but if at all to plan, I am probably in my new van by now. However, at the time of scheduling this post on Sunday evening, a couple of things suggest there may be a delay. That's okay. As long as I am on the road before May... because there is stuff to happen then too!!! Meanwhile, I am grateful for the arrival of that time of the year when salads and light food are again on the menu.
Anyway - your forbearance for my erratic visits to your own blogs and your generously continuing to visit mine add to my gratitude dose for the day.
STOP PRESS; administrative delays (government departments) mean that The Grey can't be collected until Friday. Maybe Saturday... keep watching this space!!!
Even though you were gathering for a funeral it looks like you and your sisters had an enjoyable time together. We are keeping our paws crossed that you get your van soon.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get together with your sisters, though it was for funeral. Soon enough, the new adventures begin. I can see you in a grey ghost, jauntily touring.
ReplyDeleteSound like a wonderful send off. To me it seem strange to be by crematorium.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe.
Despite the sad circumstances for gathering, I'm glad you had a wonderful catching up with your sisters. Hope your van is in your hands now, and your next adventure can begin.
ReplyDeleteFunerals are sad to say farewell, but good celebrations of who has been....and keeping connections with those still here.
ReplyDeleteThose are excellent photos of the siblings, although it's a shock to see you in black! The title of the post has me wondering what will come of the expression 'full throttle' in the era of the EV.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
Hi Yam - love the photos and news ... funerals can be useful - and I'm pleased it was a happy time. Oh gosh I hope the EV has some deadline settled for collection - all things will happen ... take care and am looking forward to your trips in May - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeletethat was something good to see you with your sisters...although it has something sad too if we come together more for sad reasons than for funy ones... that's the age, right?
ReplyDeleteIn many respects funerals are social events, and it's great that you and your sisters were able to get together, whatever the impetus for the reunion.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see you and your sisters together, even though it was for a sad event. Great photos! I wish you safe and happy travels in your new van. Take care, have a happy day!
Aside from the fact that it was a funeral, it looks like all of you had a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see the three of you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your van. I am looking forward to your further adventures! xx
Great photo of the sisters and .... sunshine! Prepare for grey at this end of the island. We hope your Donkey turns up soon. xxx Mr T (and F)
ReplyDeletestop press! oh no. hope it gets in gear soon. The photos of you and your sisters are wonderful and will provide happy memories. Funerals are often places we can come together with our family and even enjoy ourselves. My mothers funeral was one of the happiest I have ever been too. she had suffered a long time and even though we would miss her, she was past the pain of life. nearly every member of the family was there with hundreds of church members, from the church my dad pastored so many years. it was like a huge family reunion. Good luck with the govt stuff
ReplyDeleteCompetitive drakes!
ReplyDeleteYAM we thoroughly enjoyed seeing you and your sisters together!! Clapping What a wonderful idea to take the leftover food to the Salvation Army. As you said, M would have been thrilled.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty plate at the end. If you are on the road in your new van safe travels!!
I look forward to all your adventures.
Hugs Cecilia
What a lovely Sister Trio!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch an exciting time for you, can't wait to see it all unfold!
Oh, YAM, blessed sister time. I eyes fill with joy that you can enjoy this time in your life. May the government self made gods be kind with your van. namaste, janice xx
