Menoturals; Saturday Sounds

Another shorebird commonly spotted around here is the Turnstone (or, more formally, Ruddy Turnstone). They generally do not breed here, though, opting for Greenland or Canada for that. They are busy wee birdies, always rustling around on the shoreline, particularly where there is seaweed and, yes, stones to turn over!

  1. Now that is restful. We used to sail down the Thames out of London and anchor in a backwater on the Medway, and awake in the morning to a background of such sounds as waders scoured the surrounding mudflats at low tide. Such a contrast to manmade noise.

  8. Pretty bird, and they sound very noisy in a group. I suppose turning over stones is a part of looking for food.
