Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms
Some may wonder about the choice of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt's work for this heavy music-focused year of musicalisms. However, if you have been paying attention, you will have realised that heavy metal can be very lyrical and even gentle in places... think Nightwish and the recent Flanders offering from Sabaton. Pärt's music can be deceptive. Surface listening has one accepting it is spiritual and meditative. Sustained and deeper absorption, however, reveals turmoil and angst, gut reactions to subtle triggers. There is no getting away from the profound effect his discordant yet harmonious sounds have upon one's being. It is almost impossible not to be stilled and to look inward and ponder...
