There is so much to love about this painting, but most of all... just look at those reflections in the burn! It truly feels like the sky has fallen into the water and rests upon the earth. Then, there is the colouration, which emulates the late autumnal tones that prevail under such skies. Next, there is the sense of space created by the composition. The fencing on the right plays an important part in the perspective achieved.
It was interesting to read that this artist also photographed the landscape - I believe the painting here echoes the feel of looking at a photograph; there is a sense of standing right there on the banks of the burn and looking across to the hills, poised to start walking toward them...
Do you have that sensation? Does anything of this piece appeal to you?
You have described this beautiful painting very well, YAM. I am glad that you allowed us to share in your joy.
ReplyDeleteI think the water reflecting the sky, and the contrast of the darker trees and hills stands out to me.
ReplyDeleteSome of my mother people lived in Argyll.
ReplyDeleteI was immediately drawn to the sky reflected in the water. Then I noticed how beautifully the fence line has been captured.
