In the glass display cabinet were these exquisite wee bottles; the smaller ones barely more than an inch! |
What a lovely selection of pictures from Duff House.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I would be mesmerized by the glass display cabinet.

So much colour and richness but would it have been a comfortable or cosy place to call home? I wonder whether folks of such wealth led a bitterly cold existence at times (in more senses than just the air temperature in their grand salons and living rooms).

DeleteOh, I think we can safely say that Mr Duff and his second wife led a very warm and fulfilling life - fourteen sprogs, walls full of (then) budding artists. I did get the impression this family did know love and warmth - but I understand your point... one could apply the thought to the super wealthy now. Perhaps more so. None of the current elite look like they are actually enjoying life, do they?!! Yxx
Hi Yam - the Wedgwood fireplace panel just brought back my talk on Stubbs and he way he learnt using the practice of 'ecorche' in sculpting and art-work. It must have been such an interesting visit - love it and your photos - cheers Hilary
