Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms
Birthday composers continue now with John Field, Ireland, 26th of July. I cannot believe I had not heard of this bloke, given he was a great inspiration to Chopin... for it is Field who is credited with inventing the musical form known as the nocturne! By comparison to where Chopin took this style, Field's works seem almost naive, but one can also hear the experimentation going on as he works from one to eighteen... and this pianist has, this year, released an album in which she performs them all. If you enjoy sedate and soulful piano, this is the stuff for you!
