Menonday Art Vibe; The Glasgow Boys Intro

The Glasgow Boys - and yes, there was a Glasgow Girls movement, too! - were very important to the progress of art, not just in Scotland but internationally. I have shared one or two painters from this art school earlier, but today, before presenting three of my personal favourites, I would invite you to watch this very short précis film from the National Gallery collection to get a better feel for what it was all about.

  5. Thanks for this introduction to the Glasgow Boys, YAM. I had not known of them before and I am very pleased to make their acquaintance. It’s a fine little video that was produced about them. One could live a thousand lives and still barely scratch the surface of what there is to know, and in this time of political ugliness around the world, a glimpse of past beauty and creativity is exceptionally welcome. 9. I always learn something new from your posts, Yamini. Thank you so much. Quite interesting how this group came into existence, their inclination to paint in a naturalistic way, going against the traditions, how they challenged the art establishment leading to modern art.
