What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Monday is menosukhi day - the one in which I go all sentimental. For a while this means you are sharing my memories of two darling creatures, Jade Dog MacWoof and Jasper Cat MacMeow.

As Jade has had rather  a bit of attention of late here is a post that is all Jasper's.

He was a laid-back, placid sort of lad for most of his days. This made the days when he wasn't all the more interesting.  Such as the head-banging.

I'm not joking.  Being the shoulder cat that he was, I am supposing it began with him not wanting to be put down.  So when I put on the Jethro Tull or ACDC for my own stress relief workouts, he'd just go along for the ride.  There I would be, throwing the torso back and forth, with Jasper clinging on apparently thoroughly enjoying the experience.

It was when he would come in of a Sunday afternoon, look at me, then look at the stereo, then back it me that I began to get suspicious.  I'd head over to put the record or tape on and he couldn't wait to get up on the shoulder and into our dancing position.

I have witnesses.  No photos however.  Not even stored away ones.  But witnesses - and memories of a cat who liked to rock and roll…..  Mind you, it got strange when he expected the same during Bach or Taverner…  …. …. …. Some of that early music can get pretty heavy headed; nothing like an organ toccata to get one revved up!  As long as it was loud and speedy, Jazzie was into it.

But an incident that took place in his final year was rather interesting and I have the piccies.

I have mentioned previously how he and Jade would like to roll about in the scented geraniums out in the garden.  But had not noticed him reacting like that to anything else over the years...
(though possibly this would explain why certain ladies were favourites of his).  What you need to know first is that the umbrella 'in use' came from a friend's car in an emergency and we had not expected rain.  After this incident, I bought her a new one…

For once on my arrival home he was not at all interested in me.  He made a beeline for the brolly.

There were several minutes of simply sniffing. When I say sniffing, I REALLY mean sniffing.  As in I could hear him taking a long, deep, inward nose breaths!!

...then came the slobbery, blubbery, slickery rubbing... (see that shiny patch...&*()

Look at Jasper's eyes - he wasn't seeing me at all!!

...followed by the 'up close and personal' investigation of the deeper folds...

...and finally the full-embrace!

There was no 'untoward' activity I would hasten to say. Just heavy petting...

For a good 20 minutes or so...

...with the obligatory 'wee lie down' after.

The brolly had been in the car for some months I believe. As far as could be ascertained, the only likely odour would have been from friend's LWF dogs (little white fluffies - maltese xx maybe?)

Well.  Whatever turns your mojo...

  1. Oh, Yam, that is so funny...a cat falling in love with a dog-scented umbrella. So, you got a new one for your friend. Did that mean the green one became Jasper's permanently?
And it's wonderful that he loved dancing with you. What fun!
My cat Hermie liked to wrestle with my brother Rob when they were both young. And they chased one another down the hall. When Hermie reached the closed door at the end of the hall, he'd do a somersault, during which Rob would turn around and let Hermie chase him.
As for music, Hermie liked to back The Dreaded Ninja Puppy up against a wall, then "drum" on either side of her muzzle. It wasn't a very loud noise, but it satisfied Hermie's urge to make music.

PS—Just noticed another post below, dated Sept. 8 which is today's date here, so must read it now.

Kay - HAH! nose-drumming the dog? That's equally as funny!! Bless them, they all have their distinct personalities, eh?

Chair - howdy and welcome...well that is what I thought but 'friend' said she could only think it must be the LWFs! Anyway, it was lovely to see Jasper having so much fun!!!
