Menosukhi Merryment - holiday sentiments

On Friday I mentioned that the moat of Rothesay Castle had a number of residents.  All of them winged critters but very appealing.

This is a juvenile Herring Gull and below you see adults of the species.  Gulls are plentiful round any islands in the world.  They are fine in their own environment, but they have rather become a pest around human habitation, favouring the scavenging of scraps, chips, compost heaps and rubbish tips...

The more graceful and attractive moat residents, though, were the swans.

The mallard drake was only visible one of the days I visited, so I guess he was just a guest!!  To finish today's views, here is one of the moat itself.  Very photogenic.

  1. Oh my, the swans and the mallard were quite enough. Does the moat enchant them, or the other way around.

  4. The swans are most handsome, but this resident of Aberdeen (in a neighbourhood not far from the harbour) will take more persuading of the merits of gulls!
    Cheers, Gail.
