WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menoverloading; when is too much sport never enough?

It's summer. At least that's what the calendar says. Here in the Bonny Land it hasn't quite made up its mind.

Doesn't stop the run on the sports schedules though. As I sit preparing this post on the weekend before publication, there is very little productive going on - so at least these words can be put together so that I don't feel entirely decadent!

Firstly there is the cricket - test matches are up and running again here in the UK - England v South Africa; there are various ODIs in which I have some interest too. That is not on our free-to-air channels here, though there is a 'highlights' show at night... but I really enjoy the radio commentary on the BBC, which is always highly 'visual' and entertaining between balls.

Then there is Wimbledon. I would say I have a bit of a chequered history with tennis; it went through a spell of being dead boring, automotive sort of stuff.  Since returning to the UK, though, have started to get back into it and I must say that this year there has been some truly wonderful play, with a number of young players showing great promise. So I am hooked on this year's competition... but as can only run one channel at a time on the telly, am flicking back and forth to that link to keep tabs on all the matches.

Thirdly, there is the Tour de France; am a cycling fan of long years.

...and tomorrow, the Para World Championships begin!!!

Struth - the most exercise the YAMster is getting is the keyboard workout... and the occasional trip to the kitchen.

Are there any others out there as nuts as this for their sport??? It's okay, there's a cone of silence over the Hutch, it will be between ourselves... let's form a huddle...

  2. Tour de France of course, in this household. Gail confesses to being a typical 'Wimbledon only' tennis fan, and takes much less of an interest in cricket than formerly now that so little of it is on free to air TV. (As a child, the bus route to school went past the Trent Bridge cricket ground and you could peer in to see what was happening from the top deck of the bus!)

  4. Hello, I am not much of a sport fan. I like to spend much of time outside with nature. I do enjoy reading, cooking and the computer. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!

  5. I must admit I have been watching a bit of Wimbledon lately. I was very happy to see Gilles Muller beat Nadal, but then he got beaten by whoever it was, so was a bit sorry again. As for the cycling: bad bad bad! We always had to watch it during the summer. Not even 15 minutes for Sesame Street could be spared, so have a bit of a hate-hate relationship with it. Besides, I feel they should all get the same bikes without gears and just junk up the way they feel. Let's see who's best then!!

The only time sport really gets me going (or sitting down really) is the Olympics. I will be glued to the screen! And during the winter I like my ice skating and biathlon. Other than that: meh...

  6. JB is following the tennis like stink!
Very interesting. It's lots of fun for him. He is interested in the close matches, and we tape it every day, to watch at our leisure! Or I just go out and garden!
