What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

On Thursday we saw the letter "I" in the Martha Simpson affirmation alphabet. (Please note that this series has been given its own label here, of 'ABReflctions'.)

"J"ournalling is something I have done for a long time - originally in actual books with actual pens and pencils. Latterly, though, blogging here has been my 'journal'. I have spoken in a post recently about how important this is to help balance my days. It has to be admitted that to manage my time this year, in particular, it has been necessary to load up a number of posts at one go, so there is not quite the daily discipline that originally existed. However, equally important, is the reading of all your blogs. Do any of you journal any other way? Do you think of blogging as journalling?

  1. Happy J day.
As a child and teenager I wrote in a diary...I also had many pen pals. I have always enjoyed writing.
I started blogging 2009 with encouragement Kit, Mom of Kat, Rocky and Pup. At the time she had 3 Labradors
she JUST knew Madi and I would have fun and she was correct. I treasure all the books I printed during Madi's reign.
Now I'm putting my Thursday poetry in two places My Mind's Eye and another blog. Some day I'll print it out too.
I can say I have gotten better and have enjoyed putting my thoughts with the challenging photos.

Here's to another good night's sleep. I hope Dad has enjoyed having Mac 3 too
    Hugs Cecilia

  2. I've never kept a journal and if somebody tells me to write for 6 minutes I draw a total blank and can't think of one word to write. But I guess if I think about it the blog is a type of Journal because I write things that are happening daily are things that I want to happen or I don't want to happen. But mine is a public Journal not a private journal and I'm sure there's a difference to that. My parents gave me my diary when I was either 13/14 some somewhere that age and I rode in it for about six days and never touched it again

  3. Although Bertie's blog to some extent fulfils the role of a journal, I do also keep a traditional, pen and paper daily journal, and have dome since 1994. The resultant journals fill one entire shelf of a bookcase. I suspect that their only ever reader will be me, when I'm old and want to look back. I did consult one of my old journals recently to see what I'd written about the last time I sprained my ankle badly, back in 2001! Also from 2001, I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that there is no reference in my diary to 9/11 until three days after the event...
    Cheers, Gail.

Journals are pretty much for this reason - there is an entire shelf of handwritten year books from my mother which we use as a family encyclopaedia! And only yesterday, due to Anne's memory differing from mine, my blog came into its own for proving the truth of my memory. Journaling is a most magnificent tool! Yxx

  5. F has a diary she writes in most days. There is a huge crate in the top cupboard with nearly 30 years of them - she said she burned all the ones before that. Her Dad kept a daily diary - farm stuff mostly - record of seasons, what got done when, how much rain fell and when. F gets figdety sometimes and writing (curly joined up stuff) works like her meditation. It straightens her out, makes things in her brain stop fizzing. She says it doesn't matter what it is she writes, the physical act of writing does something even deeper than simply calming. I, the Tigger, am grateful for anything that creates an 'at peace' environment. F&P Mr T xx

Mr T - tell F that I know EXACTLY what she means!!! However, these days, I hand write very little as I am a rather competent typist - so the writing in the computer does serve as the 'untangler' of my thoughts quite well. I do like calligraphy though and occasionally dig out the ink. H&W, Y-a xxx

  7. I do journal now. More to keep track of my headaches than anything else really. Although more and more other things are creeping in. I used to journal a lot when I was younger, but I threw them all out. Shame really. And now I blog as well.

  8. I do consider my blog to be a journal that I can look back at but I don't write every day. It's nice to have recorded our pups lives with all their pictures and have a place to keep those memories.
